The HERTEL 83245803 is a solid carbide spade drill bit engineered for drilling hard steel and high-strength materials where standard HSS bits fall short. With a 118-degree point angle and right-hand cutting direction, this bit delivers accurate entry geometry on tough workpieces. The bright, uncoated finish makes it easy to inspect for wear after each use. At 2 inches overall length with a 1/2-inch flute length, it is sized for short-hole applications in toolrooms, maintenance shops, and production environments. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary users of this type of solid carbide drill.
This drill bit is suited for drilling hard steel and high-strength ferrous and non-ferrous materials where tool rigidity and edge retention are critical. The 9/64-inch (0.1406 inch) diameter targets small-hole applications such as pilot holes, locating holes, and precision through-holes in hardened workpieces. Its short overall length reduces deflection in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual milling machines. The solid carbide construction maintains geometry at elevated cutting speeds where high-speed steel tools would degrade.
Designed as an OEM-style solid carbide spade drill for use in standard drill press chucks, CNC machining centers, and manual mills accepting 9/64-inch shank tooling rated for hard steel and high-strength material applications.
Installation of this drill bit should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with solid carbide tooling requirements. Secure the bit firmly in a compatible chuck or collet before operation, and verify runout is within acceptable limits to prevent premature tool fracture. Solid carbide is brittle compared to HSS — avoid side loading, interrupted cuts without proper setup, or dropping the tool on hard surfaces. Power down and de-energize all machine controls before changing tooling.
