The HERTEL 83238824 is a screw machine length drill bit sized to Letter N (0.3020 inches decimal) and designed for high-production drilling in metal, ferrous alloys, and similar materials. Built from high-speed steel with an oxide coating, it runs a 135-degree split point that reduces walking and lowers thrust at entry. The web-thinned, parallel-web construction keeps cutting resistance low across the full depth of the hole. At 2.8125 inches overall length, the stub-length profile provides added rigidity over jobber-length bits, making it a common choice in screw machine and CNC turret applications where chatter and deflection must be controlled. Licensed trades and machinist shops are the primary users.
This bit fits residential and commercial manufacturing and maintenance environments where tight-tolerance, repeatable holes are required. The straight-cylindrical shank seats directly in standard drill chucks and collet holders without adapters. Its heavy-duty grade and NAS 907 specification make it appropriate for production line use, fixture drilling, and maintenance shops running automatic or semi-automatic drilling equipment. The right-hand spiral flute clears chips efficiently in through-hole applications.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement in any standard drill chuck or collet accepting a 0.3020-inch straight-cylindrical shank, consistent with NAS 907 screw machine length drill bit requirements.
Installed by machinists, maintenance technicians, and tool-and-die professionals using standard drill presses, screw machines, or CNC turret equipment. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet and verify runout before beginning a production run. Power down or de-energize the spindle completely before changing or inspecting bits. Do not exceed the recommended feed and speed parameters for the workpiece material, as overfeeding a stub-length bit in hard stock can cause premature edge failure.
