The HERTEL 8272486 is a straight-flute chucking reamer designed for precision hole finishing in metalworking and machining applications. Ground from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, it delivers consistent sizing and smooth bore surfaces on through-holes and blind holes. The reamer measures 0.5635 inches in diameter with an 8-inch overall length and a 2-inch flute length. Eight straight flutes cut in the right-hand direction, providing efficient chip clearance and accurate diameter control. The straight-cylindrical shank mounts directly in a drill chuck, collet, or machine spindle. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals rely on this style for production reaming in manual and CNC machine tools.
This chucking reamer is suited for finishing drilled or bored holes in ferrous and non-ferrous metals where tight diameter tolerance and surface finish are required. Typical applications include jobbing shops, maintenance machining, and production lines where a 0.5635-inch finished bore is specified. The straight-cylindrical shank makes it compatible with standard drill press, lathe tailstock, and milling machine setups. It is not configured as a dowel-pin reamer or an over/under-size reamer, so it is intended for standard nominal-diameter finish work.
Designed as an OEM-style chucking reamer for use in drill presses, lathes, milling machines, and CNC machining centers equipped with a drill chuck or collet that accepts a straight-cylindrical shank of 0.5635 inches nominal diameter.
Chucking reamers are installed and operated by qualified machinists following standard machine-tool setup procedures. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet before operation and verify runout with an indicator where close tolerances are required. Always reduce spindle speed relative to the drilling operation and apply appropriate cutting fluid to extend tool life and improve surface finish. Power down and de-energize the machine tool before mounting or removing the reamer.
