The HERTEL 8272189 is a straight-flute chucking reamer designed for precision hole finishing in metalworking applications. Ground from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, this reamer produces accurate, smooth bores in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It measures 35/64 inch (0.5469 inch decimal) in diameter with an overall length of 8 inches and a 2-inch flute length. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard drill chucks or collet holders. Eight flutes provide a smooth cutting action and consistent surface finish. Machinists and tool and die professionals use this reamer to bring drilled or bored holes to a precise final diameter.
This reamer is suited for manual machine operations, drill presses, lathes, and milling machines where a 35/64 inch finished bore is required. Right-hand cutting direction is compatible with standard spindle rotation. The bright HSS construction is appropriate for general-purpose reaming in steel, cast iron, aluminum, brass, and similar materials at moderate cutting speeds. It is not coated, making it straightforward to re-sharpen when wear occurs. Typical applications include fixture work, bearing fits, and close-tolerance hole finishing in job shop and production environments.
Designed as a general-purpose chucking reamer for use in drill presses, lathes, and milling machines that accept a straight-cylindrical shank tool with a 35/64 inch cutting diameter.
Chucking reamers are installed by machinists using a drill chuck or collet sized to the shank diameter. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the workpiece is securely clamped before mounting or removing the tool. Pre-drill or bore the hole to within approximately 0.010 to 0.015 inch of finished size before reaming. Use an appropriate cutting fluid for the work material to extend tool life and improve surface finish.
