The HERTEL 8000185 is a carbide shim designed for indexable tooling systems used in external turning applications. Acting as a precision seating component, this shim supports the indexable insert within the tool holder pocket, maintaining accurate insert positioning and protecting the holder body from cutting forces. At 0.125 inches thick with a 3/8 inch (0.375 inch) inscribed circle, it is machined to close tolerances for consistent, repeatable performance. Compatible with diamond-shaped inserts in a negative, neutral cutting orientation, the SKVN shim style fits the designated tool holder geometry. Machinists and CNC lathe operators working in production turning environments rely on replacement shims like this to extend tool holder service life and maintain insert stability between tool changes.
This shim is used in external turning operations on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. It is specifically suited for applications using diamond-shaped indexable inserts with a negative rake geometry and neutral cutting direction. The SKVN shim style seats securely in compatible tool holders, making it a direct replacement component for maintaining tooling system integrity in both job shop and production turning environments. Verified compatible tool holder: A16RPTFNR11. This item is sold individually with a minimum order quantity of 5 units.
Compatible with diamond-shaped indexable inserts in a negative, neutral cutting configuration. Verified for use with tool holder A16RPTFNR11. Suitable for external turning tooling systems requiring the SKVN shim style.
Installation is performed by a machinist or tooling technician during insert indexing or tool holder maintenance. Ensure the tool holder is removed from the machine spindle and all machine power is locked out before servicing the shim or insert pocket. Inspect the shim seat and clamping screw for wear or damage before seating the replacement shim. Do not overtighten the insert clamping screw without reference to the tool holder manufacturer torque specification.
