The HERTEL 79890802 is a solid carbide chucking reamer in wire gauge size 45, designed to finish-ream holes to a precise decimal diameter of 0.0820 inches. Built from solid carbide with a bright, uncoated finish, this reamer delivers tight tolerance control, holding between 0.0000 and 0.0002 inches over nominal. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in a collet or drill chuck, and the four-flute, straight-flute geometry provides consistent chip evacuation on right-hand cutting operations. At 2 inches overall length with a 0.5-inch flute length, it is sized for shallow, precision hole-finishing work where bore quality and dimensional accuracy are critical.
This reamer is suited for precision machine shop and production environments where wire-gauge holes require tight tolerances and smooth surface finish. Typical applications include finishing pilot holes, bearing seats, pin holes, and close-tolerance through-holes in metals such as aluminum, brass, and steel. It is installed and operated by machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance technicians using CNC machining centers, knee mills, or drill presses equipped with appropriate speed-and-feed controls for carbide tooling.
Designed as an OEM-style precision reamer for use in any machine tool equipped with a straight-shank collet or drill chuck capable of accepting a straight-cylindrical shank at the appropriate diameter.
Carbide reamers must be run at appropriate speeds and feeds for the workpiece material — exceeding recommended parameters risks chipping the cutting edges. Always ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the spindle is properly aligned before engaging the reamer. Apply cutting fluid appropriate to the workpiece material to reduce heat and extend tool life. Inspect the shank and cutting edges for chips or damage before each use, as carbide is brittle and susceptible to breakage if impacted or side-loaded.
