The HERTEL 77429058 is a reduced shank drill bit designed for drilling into low and medium tensile strength materials. It features a 1-7/16 inch cutting diameter paired with a 1/2 inch Weldon flat shank, allowing it to fit standard 1/2 inch chucks while delivering a larger hole diameter. The bit is machined from high-speed steel with an oxide finish that provides basic corrosion resistance and helps reduce friction during cutting. The 118-degree standard point angle suits general-purpose through-hole drilling across a wide range of workpiece materials. Licensed tradespeople and experienced machinists are the primary users of this tooling.
This drill bit is suited for metalworking and light industrial applications where a large-diameter hole is required but the available toolholder or chuck is limited to a 1/2 inch shank. Typical install scenarios include drilling steel plate, structural shapes, and similar low-to-medium tensile workpieces in fabrication shops, maintenance facilities, and field service environments. The right-hand spiral flute configuration promotes efficient chip evacuation during conventional drilling operations. The 3-flat Weldon shank style seats securely in compatible holders and resists rotational slippage under load.
Designed for use with 1/2 inch Weldon flat toolholders and compatible drill chucks. Intended for drilling low and medium tensile strength materials including mild steel and similar workpieces.
Installation and use of this drill bit should be performed by qualified machinists or tradespeople familiar with metal drilling operations. Ensure the drilling machine is fully powered down and locked out before inserting or removing the bit from the toolholder. Verify that the Weldon flat set screws are tightened securely against the flats before starting the spindle. Do not use this bit on materials that exceed its rated tensile strength range, and avoid running without adequate workpiece support or fixturing.
