The HERTEL 77428753 is a reduced shank drill bit designed for drilling into low and medium tensile strength materials including mild steel, aluminum, and similar workpiece materials. The bit features a 49/64 inch (0.7656 inch decimal) cutting diameter with a 1/2 inch Weldon flat shank, allowing it to seat securely in compatible drill chucks and holders without slipping under torque. The 118-degree standard point angle provides a versatile, general-purpose cutting geometry suited to a wide range of production and maintenance drilling operations. Built from high-speed steel with an oxide finish, this bit is a reliable go-to for machinists and maintenance technicians working in industrial, commercial, and trade environments.
This reduced shank drill bit is suited for use in drill presses, CNC drilling operations, and hand-held magnetic drills equipped with a 1/2 inch Weldon-style chuck or tool holder. The 3-inch flute length supports a maximum drilling depth of 3 inches, and the 6 inch overall length provides adequate reach for standard fixture setups. The right-hand spiral flute geometry evacuates chips efficiently during through-hole and blind-hole drilling in low to medium tensile strength materials. It is commonly used in fabrication shops, HVAC ductwork fabrication, electrical conduit work, and general mechanical maintenance.
Designed for use with 1/2 inch Weldon-style drill chucks and tool holders. Intended for drilling low and medium tensile strength materials such as mild steel, aluminum, and similar workpieces.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist or trained tradesperson familiar with drilling equipment and safe operating practices. Ensure the drill press or magnetic drill is fully powered down and locked out before installing or removing the bit. Secure the Weldon flat shank firmly in the holder, engaging all available set screws against the flats to prevent slippage under load. Do not exceed the rated drilling depth of 3 inches and use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material where applicable.
