The HERTEL 77428696 is a reduced shank drill bit designed for drilling into low and medium tensile strength materials in production and maintenance environments. It features a 43/64 inch (0.6719 inch decimal) cutting diameter paired with a 1/2 inch Weldon flat shank, allowing it to seat securely in Weldon-style end mill holders and reduce slippage under torque. The 118-degree standard point angle suits general-purpose drilling in mild steel, aluminum, and similar materials. An oxide finish provides basic lubricity and surface protection. This bit is a standard tool for machinists, millwrights, and maintenance technicians working on drill presses, milling machines, or CNC equipment.
This drill bit fits applications requiring a large-diameter hole with a reduced 1/2 inch shank for compatibility with common toolholders. It is well suited for job shop work, light manufacturing, and facility maintenance where low to medium tensile strength materials such as mild steel, aluminum, and soft alloys are the primary workpiece. The right-hand spiral flute design clears chips efficiently during through-hole and blind-hole drilling operations. With a 3 inch flute length and 6 inch overall length, it handles moderate drilling depths without excessive extension beyond the toolholder.
Designed for use with Weldon-style toolholders accepting a 1/2 inch shank diameter, suitable for drill presses, manual mills, and CNC machines configured for reduced shank drill bits in low to medium tensile strength materials.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully powered down and the toolholder is clean and free of debris before seating the shank. Torque the Weldon set screw against the flat per the toolholder specification to prevent shank slippage during operation. This bit is not rated for coolant-through use; external coolant or cutting fluid should be applied as appropriate for the workpiece material.
