The HERTEL 75987701 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers heat and wear resistance needed for hard or abrasive workpieces. The TiCN coating further extends tool life by reducing friction and edge buildup. At 3/8 inch diameter with 3 coarse-pitch flutes, it produces a characteristic corncob chip-breaking profile that reduces cutting forces and allows deeper passes. The center-cutting geometry allows plunge entry as well as peripheral and slot milling. Licensed machinists and CNC operators rely on this geometry for roughing operations where surface finish is secondary to material removal rate.
This end mill suits ferrous and non-ferrous roughing applications in vertical mills, CNC machining centers, and manual knee mills. The 3/4 inch length of cut and 2-1/2 inch overall length make it appropriate for shallow-to-moderate pocket depths and shoulder milling. The right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction are standard for conventional and climb milling on most setups. It is well suited for tool and die shops, job shops, and maintenance machining environments where cobalt tooling is preferred over carbide for interrupted cuts or hard-spot workpieces.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for 3/8 inch single-end roughing end mills used in standard collet chucks, end mill holders, and Weldon-style set-screw holders accepting a 3/8 inch shank.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Always power down and lock out the spindle before loading or removing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the holder to the recommended gauge line and torque set screws or collet nuts per the holder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the cutting edges and coating for damage before each use; a chipped roughing end mill increases cutting forces and can damage the workpiece or spindle.
