The HERTEL 74460098 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit sized at 12.00 mm (0.4724 inch) diameter, engineered for precision hole-making in aluminum and non-ferrous materials. It features a 118-degree standard point angle with web thinning for easier entry and reduced thrust. The bright, uncoated finish suits applications where coating buildup could affect tolerance. Overall length is 4.75 inches with a 3.0-inch flute length and a 0.25-inch straight cylindrical shank. Two regular spiral flutes evacuate chips efficiently in softer metals. This drill is used by machinists, tool-and-die workers, and general metalworking tradespeople in both shop and production environments.
This jobber drill is rated for general-purpose use in aluminum, copper, brass, and other non-ferrous materials. Its web-thinned, tapered-web construction reduces the force required to start and advance the cut, making it well suited for drilling on manual mills, CNC machining centers, and drill presses where tight diameter tolerances are required. The solid carbide construction at material grade C2 provides the rigidity needed to hold a diameter tolerance of -0.0005 to 0.0000 inch in production runs or precision one-off work. Maximum recommended drilling depth is 3.625 inches.
Designed for use in aluminum and non-ferrous workpiece materials. Compatible with standard drill chucks and ER collet systems accepting a 0.25-inch straight shank. Suitable for manual drill presses, vertical mills, and CNC machining centers.
Installation and use of this drill should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with speeds and feeds for solid carbide tooling. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet before operation and verify runout before beginning a cut. Solid carbide is brittle compared to high-speed steel - avoid side loading, interrupted cuts in hard materials, or dropping the tool. Coolant through is not available on this drill; external coolant or cutting fluid is recommended when drilling deep holes or high-volume runs in aluminum.
