The HERTEL 74459975 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for precision hole-making in demanding shop and field applications. Built from C2-grade solid carbide with a bright coating, it delivers hardness and wear resistance well beyond standard high-speed steel tooling. The bit measures 4.5 mm (0.1772 inches) in diameter with an overall length of 2.75 inches and a flute length of 1.625 inches. A 118-degree standard point angle and web-thinned, tapered web configuration reduce entry force and improve chip evacuation on startup. Machinists, tool-and-die workers, and mechanical contractors reach for carbide jobber bits when drilling hard or abrasive workpiece materials at sustained feeds and speeds.
This bit is suited for general-purpose drilling in metal fabrication, maintenance, and production environments. The right-hand spiral flute with regular helix efficiently clears chips in through-hole and blind-hole operations. The straight-cylindrical shank seats directly into standard drill chucks and collet holders accepting 0.1772-inch shank diameter tooling. It falls within the 4.00 mm to 5.00 mm drill size range, making it a common selection for tapped hole preparation, clearance holes, and close-tolerance bores where carbide rigidity reduces wander and maintains diameter control.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber-length drill bit compatible with standard drill chucks and collet systems accepting a 0.1772-inch straight-cylindrical shank diameter.
Carbide drill bits require rigid machine setups - use in a drill press, milling machine, or CNC machining center wherever possible to prevent breakage from lateral deflection. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling; carbide is hard but brittle and will fracture under side loading or impact. Confirm chuck or collet runout is within acceptable limits before use, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear and reduces hole-diameter accuracy. No coolant-through capability is present on this bit, so apply cutting fluid at the surface when drilling ferrous or stainless materials.
