The HERTEL 74148925 is a screw machine length drill bit ground from solid carbide and designed for high-performance drilling in hard and abrasive workpiece materials. At 17/64 inches (0.2656 inches) in diameter, it features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking and lowers thrust requirements at entry. The slow spiral flute geometry promotes chip evacuation in tough materials while maintaining rigidity in the shortened screw machine length format. This bit suits production environments where cycle time, tool life, and hole quality in difficult alloys are priorities. Machinists, tool-and-die shops, and maintenance technicians installing or repairing equipment in demanding materials are the primary users.
This drill bit is intended for drilling cast iron, nickel alloy, stainless steel, titanium alloy, and tool steel. The screw machine length body provides extra rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, making it well suited for CNC machining centers, turret lathes, and drill presses where stub-length reach is sufficient. The straight cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks and collets. Its web-thinned, parallel-web construction reduces cutting forces when entering work, which is especially beneficial in interrupted cuts and cross-hole applications common in production machining.
Designed for drilling cast iron, nickel alloy, stainless steel, titanium alloy, and tool steel. Part of the HSSC135-SS series, covering decimal inch diameters from 0.2500 to 0.3000 inches. Fits standard straight-bore drill chucks and collets accepting a straight cylindrical shank.
Installation and use of this bit should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with carbide tooling procedures. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet and verify runout before beginning a cut, as carbide is brittle and sensitive to lateral loading. Coolant-through capability is not supported on this bit, so apply cutting fluid externally and maintain appropriate feed and speed parameters for the workpiece material to avoid thermal shock or chipping. Inspect the cutting edge before each use and replace at the first sign of chipping or edge breakdown.
