The HERTEL 74147737 is a reduced shank cobalt drill bit designed for drilling into tough, high tensile strength materials where standard high-speed steel tooling falls short. The bit features a 63/64 inch (0.9844 inch) cutting diameter with a reduced 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank, allowing it to seat in standard 1/2 inch capacity chucks without requiring a larger chuck body. The 118-degree standard point angle provides a proven general-purpose cutting geometry. An oxide straw finish helps reduce friction and resist heat buildup during aggressive drilling operations. The cobalt construction gives the bit superior heat and wear resistance compared to standard HSS bits.
This drill bit is suited for machinists, tool-and-die workers, maintenance technicians, and fabricators working with tough ferrous metals, hardened alloys, and other high tensile strength workpiece materials. The reduced shank design makes it practical for use in standard shop drill presses and hand-held drilling equipment equipped with 1/2 inch chucks, eliminating the need for a large-capacity chuck when drilling near-1-inch diameter holes. Right-hand spiral flutes evacuate chips efficiently during through-hole and deep drilling passes up to the 3 inch maximum drilling depth.
Designed for use in drill presses and drilling equipment with 1/2 inch capacity chucks; intended for use in tough high tensile strength ferrous and alloy materials.
Installation and use should be performed by machinists or qualified technicians familiar with rotary cutting tool safety. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify runout before starting the cut. Always use appropriate feeds and speeds for cobalt tooling in the target material, and wear appropriate PPE including eye protection. No coolant is required per the product specification, but dry cutting conditions should be monitored to avoid excessive heat buildup.
