The HERTEL 74147695 is a reduced shank cobalt drill bit designed for drilling into tough, high-tensile-strength materials where standard high-speed steel bits fall short. The bit measures 59/64 inch (0.921 inch) in diameter with a 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank that fits standard 1/2 inch chucks, making a larger-diameter bit accessible without requiring a larger drill. The 118-degree standard point angle provides a versatile entry geometry suitable for a wide range of metal drilling applications. An oxide straw finish reduces friction and provides light surface protection during use. Overall length is 6 inches with a 3-inch flute length, keeping chip evacuation efficient during deep passes.
This drill bit is suited for metalworking and maintenance repair operations where harder alloys, tool steels, stainless steels, and other tough high-tensile-strength workpieces are involved. The right-hand spiral flute design with regular helix moves chips up and out of the hole effectively. It is appropriate for use in machine shop environments, production drilling, and field maintenance applications where a cobalt-grade bit is specified. The reduced shank design allows the full 59/64 inch cutting diameter to be run in a standard 1/2 inch drill press or CNC spindle without an oversized chuck.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use cobalt drill bit for applications requiring a 59/64 inch bore in tough high-tensile-strength materials, compatible with any machine or handheld drill accepting a 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank.
This bit is installed by a machinist or maintenance technician into any drill press, CNC machine, or hand drill with a 1/2 inch or larger chuck capacity. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation and verify runout is within acceptable limits before drilling. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant as required by the workpiece material and machine setup, even though the bit is listed without integrated coolant channels. Follow applicable shop safety standards and machine guarding requirements when operating.
