The HERTEL 74147596 is a reduced shank cobalt drill bit designed for drilling into tough, high-tensile-strength materials where standard high-speed steel bits fall short. The bit measures 49/64 inch (0.7656 inch) in diameter with a 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank, allowing it to chuck into standard 1/2 inch drill chucks despite its larger cutting diameter. The 118-degree standard point angle provides aggressive cutting geometry suited to ferrous and hard alloy workpieces. An oxide straw finish reduces friction and provides light corrosion resistance during storage and use. Overall length is 6 inches with a 3-inch flute length, and the right-hand spiral flutes evacuate chips efficiently during deep passes.
This bit is specified for applications involving tough, high-tensile-strength materials such as stainless steel, alloy steel, and similar hard ferrous metals. The reduced shank design makes it practical for use in standard drill presses, magnetic base drills, and hand-held drill motors equipped with 1/2 inch chucks. Machinists, pipefitters, ironworkers, and maintenance technicians will find this bit applicable on fabrication and field work where oversized holes are required but oversized chucks are not available.
Designed as a reduced shank replacement-style cobalt drill bit compatible with any 1/2 inch drill chuck on standard drill presses, magnetic base drills, or heavy-duty hand drills. Intended for use in tough, high-tensile-strength primary and secondary workpiece materials as specified by the manufacturer.
Install into a 1/2 inch drill chuck and tighten securely with a chuck key before operation. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling to prevent movement and ensure accurate hole placement. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant on hard alloys when possible to extend bit life, even though the bit itself does not require through-coolant supply. Inspect the cutting edges and point before each use and replace the bit if chipping or dulling is evident.
