The HERTEL 74147471 is a reduced shank cobalt drill bit designed for drilling into tough, high tensile strength materials where standard high-speed steel bits fall short. The bit features a 19/32 inch cutting diameter with a reduced 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank, allowing it to fit standard 1/2 inch drill chucks while delivering a larger bore diameter. The 118-degree standard point angle provides a versatile, self-centering entry suited to a wide range of metals. An oxide straw finish helps reduce friction and resist heat buildup during aggressive drilling operations. Total weight is 0.2 pounds.
This drill bit is suited for metalworking applications involving tough ferrous alloys and high tensile strength materials in industrial, maintenance, and fabrication environments. The right-hand spiral flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation during extended cuts. With a 3 inch flute length and 6 inch overall length, it handles moderate-depth holes in structural steel, tool steel, and similarly demanding workpiece materials. It is appropriate for use in drill presses, magnetic drills, and heavy-duty hand drills equipped with a 1/2 inch chuck.
Designed for use with 1/2 inch capacity drill chucks on drill presses, magnetic base drills, and heavy-duty portable drills. Suitable for drilling tough high tensile strength ferrous and alloy materials.
This bit should be installed and operated by qualified machinists or maintenance professionals familiar with metal drilling procedures. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling and ensure the chuck is fully tightened onto the 1/2 inch shank. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for extended runs in hard alloys, and operate at a spindle speed appropriate for the workpiece material and bit diameter. Wear appropriate PPE including eye protection whenever operating rotary cutting tools.
