The HERTEL 74147448 is a reduced shank cobalt drill bit designed for drilling tough, high tensile strength materials in demanding shop and field environments. The bit features a 35/64 inch (0.5469 inch decimal) cutting diameter with a 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank, allowing it to fit standard 1/2 inch chucks while drilling an oversized bore. The 118-degree standard point angle provides a good balance of centering ability and cutting efficiency on hard steels and alloys. An oxide straw finish reduces friction and offers light corrosion resistance during storage and use. Machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians typically deploy this bit for production or maintenance drilling operations.
This reduced shank drill bit is suited for applications involving tough high tensile strength ferrous and non-ferrous materials where a standard high-speed steel bit would wear prematurely. The cobalt construction provides elevated heat resistance, making it appropriate for drilling stainless steel, hardened alloys, and similar challenging workpiece materials.
