The HERTEL 74147422 is a reduced shank cobalt drill bit designed for drilling into tough, high tensile strength materials where standard high-speed steel bits fall short. The bit measures 33/64 inch (0.5156 inch) in diameter with a 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank, allowing it to seat in standard 1/2 inch chucks despite the larger cutting diameter. Overall length is 6 inches with a 3 inch flute length. The 118-degree standard point angle suits general-purpose drilling across a wide range of ferrous and hard alloy workpieces. An oxide straw finish provides mild corrosion resistance and reduces friction during cutting. Right-hand cut with a regular spiral flute pattern for efficient chip evacuation.
This bit is suited for machine shops, maintenance facilities, and fabrication environments where operators are drilling into stainless steel, alloy steel, titanium, and other tough high tensile strength materials. The reduced shank design makes it compatible with common 1/2 inch drill chucks and drilling machines without requiring a larger chuck capacity. It is a single-piece package intended for professional trade and industrial use, including HVAC fabrication, pipefitting, and structural work where hard-metal drilling is routine.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or working bit for any drill press, milling machine, or hand drill equipped with a 1/2 inch chuck. Primary and secondary workpiece material rating is tough high tensile strength materials. No coolant-through capability.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist or tradesperson familiar with rotating cutting tools. Secure the 1/2 inch shank fully in the chuck and verify runout before drilling. Always wear appropriate eye and hand protection when operating drill bits in ferrous or hard alloy materials. Do not exceed the recommended drilling depth of 3 inches for this bit length.
