The HERTEL 74146515 is a taper length twist drill bit designed for precision hole-making in hard and abrasion-resistant metals. Built from cobalt high-speed steel and coated with TiAlN for extended tool life at elevated cutting temperatures, this bit features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking and requires no center punch on most surfaces. The straight cylindrical shank measures 3/16 inch in diameter, the flute length is 3-3/8 inches, and the overall length is 5-3/4 inches. The right-hand spiral flute with a tapered web configuration and web thinning promotes efficient chip evacuation during deep-hole drilling operations.
This bit is suited for drilling alloy steel and stainless steel in metalworking, fabrication, and maintenance applications. The taper length body provides additional reach compared to a jobber-length bit while maintaining rigidity, making it a practical choice for production drilling, toolroom work, and field repair situations where material hardness demands a cobalt-grade tool. It is sold and packaged individually.
Designed for use in alloy steel and stainless steel applications. Fits any standard drill chuck accepting a 3/16-inch straight cylindrical shank.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist or metalworking professional. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling and use cutting fluid rated for cobalt tooling when drilling stainless or alloy steel to maximize bit life. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace if chipping or excessive wear is observed. Follow applicable workplace safety standards for rotating machinery during all drilling operations.
