The HERTEL 74132432 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-speed drilling in tight-clearance and short-reach applications. Built from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiAlN coating, this bit handles harder workpiece materials and elevated cutting temperatures better than standard HSS tooling. The split point tip at 135 degrees reduces walking and enables drilling without a center punch on most materials. At 1.75 inches overall length with a 0.75-inch flute, this stub-length geometry provides rigidity and resistance to deflection during drilling operations.
This bit is suited for metalworking environments where reduced drill length improves rigidity in drill presses, CNC machines, and hand-held power tools working in confined spaces. The wire gauge size 46, equivalent to 0.0810 inches decimal diameter, is a common dimension in precision hole drilling for fastener clearances, tapping pre-drill operations, and small-diameter through-hole work in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and other ferrous alloys. Right-hand spiral fluting provides standard chip evacuation appropriate for most production and maintenance drilling tasks.
Designed as a screw machine length replacement drill bit for wire gauge size 46 applications in standard drill chucks and collet systems accepting a straight-cylindrical shank at 0.0810 inches diameter.
Installation and tool changes should be performed with the machine fully powered down and any rotational motion completely stopped before inserting or removing the bit from the chuck or collet. Machinists and toolroom technicians should verify chuck or collet capacity matches the shank diameter before securing the bit. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material when drilling ferrous alloys to maximize tool life, noting this bit does not support coolant-through capability. Inspect the cutting edges and coating for wear or chipping before each use.
