The HERTEL 74132374 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-speed, close-tolerance drilling in metal fabrication, machining, and maintenance applications. Built from cobalt steel with a TiAlN (titanium aluminum nitride) coating, it delivers extended tool life when cutting hard and abrasive materials. The 135-degree split point reduces thrust and enables self-centering entry without a center punch. At 1-13/16 inches overall length, this stub-length geometry minimizes deflection and improves hole accuracy in short-reach setups. Right-hand cutting with a regular spiral flute, the bit is suited for use in CNC machines, drill presses, and hand-held power tools requiring a straight-cylindrical shank.
This drill bit is sized at wire gauge Number 40, equivalent to 0.0980 inches decimal, placing it in the 0.0000 to 0.1000 inch diameter range. It is commonly used by machinists, tool and die workers, HVAC sheet metal technicians, electricians, and maintenance trades drilling into stainless steel, hardened alloys, cast iron, and other tough substrates. The short flute length of 13/16 inches and parallel web configuration support chip evacuation in blind holes and interrupted cuts. Each package contains one bit, with a minimum order quantity of 12 units.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and hand-held power tools equipped with standard straight-shank drill chucks accepting a 0.0980-inch diameter bit.
Install into a properly sized drill chuck and verify chuck jaws are fully tightened before operation. Secure the workpiece with appropriate fixturing to prevent movement during drilling. Use cutting fluid or coolant appropriate to the workpiece material to maximize bit life, noting this bit does not support coolant-through delivery. Inspect the cutting edge for wear or chipping before each use, as cobalt bits used on hardened materials can experience edge micro-fracture under high feed rates.
