The HERTEL 74131558 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-production drilling in metal and hard materials. Built from cobalt high-speed steel with a TiAlN coating, this bit handles elevated cutting temperatures and abrasive workpieces better than standard HSS tooling. The split point geometry at 135 degrees reduces walking and requires no center punch on most materials. At 3 inches overall length, the stub format provides added rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, making it well suited for drill press and CNC applications where deflection must be minimized. Machinists, tool-and-die workers, and maintenance technicians are the primary users of this format.
This drill bit fits standard screw machine and short-series drilling applications across metalworking, fabrication shops, and industrial maintenance environments. The 11/32-inch diameter and straight cylindrical shank allow direct chucking in conventional 3-jaw drill chucks and collet holders without adapters. Web-thinned construction reduces thrust force at the spindle, which extends tool life in repeated-entry operations on steel, stainless, cast iron, and similar ferrous and non-ferrous substrates. It is sold individually and suits both manual and CNC drilling setups.
Designed for use in standard drill chucks and collet holders accepting a straight cylindrical shank in the 0.3000 to 0.3500 inch diameter range, typical of screw machine length drill bit applications in metalworking and industrial maintenance.
This bit is installed and removed by a licensed machinist or qualified maintenance technician using a standard keyed or keyless drill chuck. Ensure the drilling machine is fully powered down and the spindle has stopped before changing tooling. Secure the shank fully within the chuck jaws to the recommended engagement depth to prevent pullout under load. Do not exceed the rated RPM range for the diameter and material combination being drilled.
