The HERTEL 74131483 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-productivity metal drilling applications. Built from cobalt tool steel and coated with TiAlN (Titanium Aluminum Nitride), it handles elevated cutting temperatures and resists wear when working through hard or abrasive materials. The bit measures 15/64 inches (0.2344 inches decimal) in diameter with an overall length of 2-7/16 inches and a flute length of 1-5/16 inches. The 135-degree split point geometry reduces walking at the start of a cut and lowers the thrust force needed to penetrate the workpiece. Machinists, tool-and-die workers, and maintenance technicians install this bit in drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand-held power drills.
Screw machine length drill bits are shorter than jobber-length bits, making them well suited for applications where rigidity and reduced deflection matter. This bit is commonly used in production drilling, fixture work, and repetitive short-hole operations in ferrous metals, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys. The straight-cylindrical shank seats directly into standard drill chucks and collet systems without adapters. Right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional drilling setups.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard tooling option for use in drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand-held power drills accepting a straight-cylindrical shank bit in the 0.2000 to 0.2500 inch diameter range.
Install and remove drill bits only with the drill press or machine powered down and the spindle fully stopped. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in the chuck to the full depth of the chuck jaws to prevent slippage under load. Verify cutting speed and feed rate are appropriate for the workpiece material before beginning a cut. Follow applicable machine shop safety practices and employer-specific lockout/tagout procedures before changing tooling.
