The HERTEL 74131475 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-speed, close-tolerance drilling in metal fabrication, machining, and maintenance environments. Built from cobalt steel with a TiAlN coating, this bit handles harder workpiece materials and elevated cutting temperatures better than standard high-speed steel tooling. The 135-degree split point reduces walking and allows the bit to start without a center punch on flat or curved surfaces. At 7/32 inches in diameter with a 2-3/8 inch overall length, the shorter stub body improves rigidity and reduces deflection in tight-clearance setups. Right-hand cutting direction with a standard spiral flute. Installed by machinists, maintenance technicians, and skilled tradespeople using standard drill chucks and machine spindles.
This bit is suited for drilling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and other tough metals in production and repair applications. The screw machine length format makes it well suited for drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand-held drill motors where a shorter tool length reduces chatter and improves hole straightness. The parallel web configuration and web-thinned geometry promote cleaner chip evacuation and lower thrust requirements during operation.
Designed as a standard screw machine length drill bit with a straight cylindrical shank, compatible with any drill chuck or collet system accepting a 7/32 inch shank diameter.
Secure the shank fully in the drill chuck or collet before operation and confirm the bit is centered and runs true before engaging the workpiece. Power down the machine and remove the bit from the chuck before measuring or clearing chips. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling ferrous metals to manage heat buildup, noting this bit does not support through-coolant delivery. Inspection of cutting edge condition before each use is recommended to maintain hole quality and tool life.
