The HERTEL 74130972 is a cobalt screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in tough materials. Built to Series HSCO135 standards, this bit features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking and allows fast penetration without a center punch. The web-thinned, parallel-web construction minimizes thrust during entry. At 1.75 inches overall length with a 0.75-inch flute length, this stub-length geometry provides rigidity and resistance to deflection in short-reach applications. The bright straw finish indicates cobalt steel composition without an added coating. Machinists, tool-and-die workers, and maintenance technicians reach for this style when drilling stainless steel, high-alloy steel, and other work-hardening materials.
This bit is suited for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and hand-held power tools where a stub-length bit is preferred for stiffness and control. The straight cylindrical shank fits standard Jacobs-style chucks and collet holders. It is commonly used in metal fabrication shops, maintenance and repair operations, and production environments where wire-gauge hole sizing to 0.0820 inches is required. The right-hand spiral and regular flute geometry provide efficient chip evacuation in through-hole and blind-hole applications in metalworking settings.
Designed as a standard wire-gauge screw machine length drill bit for use in any drill press, machining center, or power tool equipped with a chuck or collet accepting a straight cylindrical shank in the 0.0820-inch decimal-inch size range.
Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet and verify runout before beginning a cut. Use cutting fluid or coolant appropriate for the workpiece material to extend tool life when drilling stainless or alloy steels. De-energize and lock out any machine before changing tooling per applicable OSHA lockout-tagout procedures. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping or wear before each use and replace the bit if edge integrity is compromised.
