The HERTEL 74130659 is a cobalt screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in tough materials including stainless steel, high-temperature alloys, and hardened steels. Built to the Series HSCO135 specification, it features a 135-degree split point that self-centers on contact and reduces walking without a center punch. Web thinning further reduces thrust requirements at the cutting edge. At 2-3/16 inches overall length with a 1-1/8 inch flute length, this is a stub-length configuration optimized for rigidity in short-reach applications. The straight cylindrical shank seats in standard drill chucks and collets without modification.
Screw machine length bits are a standard choice in production machining, fabrication shops, and maintenance environments where rigidity matters more than reach. This bit is suited for drilling through metal plate, structural steel, and similar ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The right-hand, regular spiral flute geometry provides reliable chip evacuation in through-hole and blind-hole drilling. At 0.1820 inch decimal diameter, it corresponds to a wire gauge size 14, fitting applications that call for precision sizing within the 0.1500 to 0.2000 inch diameter range.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for standard wire gauge size 14 screw machine length drill bits used in drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand drills equipped with a straight-shank chuck or collet system accepting a 0.1820 inch shank diameter.
Installation is performed by machinists, toolmakers, and maintenance technicians. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet before operation and confirm runout is within acceptable limits for the application. Always power down and lock out the machine before changing bits. Do not exceed the recommended surface footage for cobalt tooling in the material being drilled, and apply cutting fluid where the material and setup allow to extend tool life.
