The HERTEL 74130204 is a screw machine length cobalt drill bit designed for high-speed drilling in hard and abrasive materials including stainless steel, high-temperature alloys, and hardened tool steels. At 9/64 inch (0.1406 inch decimal) in diameter with a 135-degree split point, this bit starts on contact without a center punch and reduces walking on curved or uneven surfaces. The split point geometry also lowers thrust requirements, making it well-suited for production drilling environments. Overall length is 1-15/16 inches with a 15/16-inch flute length, keeping the stub-length profile rigid and minimizing deflection in close-quarters applications.
Screw machine length drill bits are standard in metalworking shops, machine maintenance, and fabrication environments where short, rigid tooling improves hole accuracy and tool life. This bit is used in drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand-held power tools for repetitive hole-making in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The straight cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks. The cobalt construction makes it a go-to choice when high-speed steel bits wear prematurely on tough materials. Machinists, millwrights, and maintenance technicians commonly specify this type of bit for production runs and repair work.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement screw machine length drill bit for any standard drill chuck accepting a straight cylindrical shank in the 9/64 inch diameter range.
Install and remove this bit only while the drill press or power tool is fully powered down and the chuck key is clear of the machine. Secure the straight shank firmly in the chuck before drilling to prevent slippage and runout. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling hard alloys to extend bit life, even though this bit does not support coolant-through delivery. Refer to machine manufacturer guidelines for recommended speeds and feeds for the material being drilled.
