The HERTEL 74129362 is a straight-flute solid carbide drill bit designed for precision drilling in hard and difficult-to-machine materials. Built from C2-grade carbide with a bright, uncoated finish, this bit features a 140-degree notched point and a web-thinned geometry that reduces entry force and improves chip clearance. The 2-flute straight configuration is optimized for short-hole drilling applications where rigidity and hole accuracy are the priority. With a drill diameter of 0.4531 inches (29/64 inches) and a tight diameter tolerance of +0.0000 to -0.0005 inches, this bit is suited for machinists, toolroom technicians, and maintenance professionals who need repeatable, on-dimension holes in demanding alloys.
This drill bit is intended for use on ferrous and high-strength materials including stainless steel, chrome alloy, heat-treated alloy steel, nickel alloy, titanium alloy, and general steel stock. It is well suited for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual mills where straight-flute geometry provides better hole straightness and reduced chatter compared to spiral-flute designs. Right-hand cutting direction makes it compatible with standard spindle rotation on conventional machine tools. Designed for drilling chrome alloy, heat-treated alloy, nickel alloy, stainless steel, steel, and titanium alloy workpiece materials as primary and secondary applications. Compatible with standard drill chucks and collet systems accepting a 0.4531-inch shank diameter.
Installation and use of this drill bit should be performed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel familiar with carbide tooling. Always secure the workpiece firmly and verify spindle speed and feed rate are appropriate for carbide tooling before operation. Coolant-through capability is not available on this bit, so external cutting fluid or mist coolant is recommended when drilling stainless steel, nickel alloy, or titanium alloy to extend tool life. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping before each use, as carbide is brittle and may be damaged by interrupted cuts or excessive runout.
