The HERTEL 72846538 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating, it delivers hardness and heat resistance suited to tough workpiece materials. The 1/2-inch diameter cutter features four right-hand flutes with a fine pitch geometry that reduces chatter and improves chip evacuation during heavy cuts. Center-cutting capability allows plunge entry without a pre-drilled pilot hole. With a 1.25-inch length of cut and 3.25-inch overall length, this end mill fits standard toolholding setups on CNC and manual milling machines. Installed by machinists and toolroom professionals in metalworking environments.
This end mill suits roughing passes on ferrous and non-ferrous metals where rapid stock removal is the priority before a finishing pass. The right-hand flute and right-hand cutting direction make it compatible with conventional vertical and horizontal milling machine spindles. Fine-pitch flute spacing reduces the depth of the serration marks left on the workpiece, limiting cleanup required for the finishing stage. Typical applications include die and mold work, general job-shop milling, and production machining operations requiring consistent tool life under interrupted or heavy-load cutting conditions.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit tooling option for 1/2-inch end mill holders, collet chucks, and toolholding systems accepting a 1/2-inch straight shank on CNC and manual milling machines.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel. Ensure the milling machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Verify collet or tool holder is clean and free of chips before seating the shank. Tighten to the tool holder manufacturer's specified clamping torque and confirm runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut.
