The HERTEL 72846314 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and coated with Titanium Nitride (TiN), it delivers hardness retention and wear resistance under heavy cutting loads. The 3/4 inch diameter tool features 4 flutes with a coarse pitch geometry that breaks chips and reduces cutting pressure compared to standard end mills. With a 3 inch length of cut and 5-1/4 inch overall length, it handles deeper passes in a single setup. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute direction are standard for conventional CNC and manual mill applications. Installed by machinists and tool-and-die professionals working in ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
This roughing end mill suits production milling, moldmaking, and general machining environments where rapid stock removal is the priority. The coarse pitch design reduces chatter and cutting forces on medium to large knee mills, vertical machining centers, and CNC mill-turn setups. The TiN coating extends tool life on steels, alloy steels, and cast irons. Center-cutting capability allows plunge entry without a pre-drilled pilot hole, giving the operator more flexibility in tool path programming. Extended reach is not featured, making this tool best suited for standard-depth pocketing and peripheral milling applications.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use roughing end mill for standard 3/4 inch collet chucks, end mill holders, and hydraulic tool holders used in vertical and horizontal milling machines.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before inserting or removing the tool from the holder. Ensure the shank is fully seated and the holder is torqued to the tool holder manufacturer's specification. Inspect the TiN coating and cutting edges for chips or wear before each use, and verify correct spindle direction before engaging the cut.
