The HERTEL 72555014 is a straight-flute chucking reamer designed for precision hole finishing in metal workpieces. Built from cobalt steel, it handles harder materials and higher cutting temperatures than standard high-speed steel tooling. The reamer measures 0.5010 inches in diameter with an 8-inch overall length and a 2-inch flute length. It carries a bright, uncoated finish and is classified as an over/under size reamer, making it suitable for applications requiring a bore slightly above standard nominal diameter. Right-hand cutting direction follows conventional reaming practice. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals use this style of reamer with a lathe, drill press, or CNC machining center chuck.
This chucking reamer is intended for finishing bored or drilled holes to a close tolerance diameter of 0.5010 inches. The straight-cylindrical shank seats directly in a drill chuck or collet without requiring a taper adapter. Straight flutes perform well in through-hole applications and in materials that produce short, chippy cuttings. Typical use cases include production machining, repair work, and toolroom operations where hole geometry and surface finish are critical. It is not designated as a dowel pin reamer.
Designed as an OEM-style chucking reamer for use in any drill press, lathe tailstock, or CNC machining center equipped with a chuck or collet accepting a straight-cylindrical shank at the specified diameter.
A qualified machinist or toolroom professional should install and operate this reamer. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in the chuck or collet before engaging the workpiece, and ensure the spindle is fully stopped before tool changes. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and maintain bore finish quality. Follow shop safety standards and applicable machine guarding requirements during all reaming operations.
