The HERTEL 72402977 is a taper pin reamer designed to finish and size tapered holes for standard taper pin installations. Made from high-speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, this reamer accepts a 4/0 taper pin size and features a small end diameter of 0.0869 inches and a large end diameter of 0.1142 inches. The three helical flutes with right-hand cut geometry provide smooth material removal and good chip evacuation. With an overall length of 2.3125 inches and a straight shank diameter of 0.125 inches, it fits standard drill chucks and collet holders. This is a general-purpose tool suited for precision hole finishing in metalworking applications.
This taper pin reamer is used in machine shops, maintenance facilities, and manufacturing environments where taper pin connections must be accurately fitted. Typical applications include enlarging and finishing tapered holes in shafts, hubs, and mechanical assemblies that use standard taper pins for alignment or fastening. The 1:48 taper rate conforms to standard taper pin specifications. Machinists and maintenance mechanics working with manual or CNC-equipped mills, lathes, and drill presses are the primary installers of this tool.
Designed for use with standard 4/0 taper pins following a 1:48 taper rate. Fits drill chucks and collet holders accepting a 0.125 inch straight shank. Suitable for general-purpose hole enlarging, hole finishing, and hole shaping operations.
This tool is installed and operated by machinists and maintenance mechanics using drill presses, milling machines, or lathes. Secure the straight shank firmly in a compatible chuck or collet before use, and ensure the workpiece is clamped to prevent movement during reaming. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve finish quality. Never force the reamer through an undersized hole in a single pass — take incremental cuts to achieve the final taper pin fit.
