The HERTEL 72308588 is a wire-size chucking reamer designed to finish-ream precision holes to a No. 58 wire gauge diameter of 0.0420 inches. Constructed from cobalt steel with a bright uncoated finish, this reamer delivers hardness and heat resistance suitable for production and maintenance drilling operations. The straight-cylindrical shank allows direct mounting in standard drill chucks and collet holders. With an overall length of 2.5 inches and a flute length of 0.5 inches, it is sized for close-tolerance small-diameter reaming in a range of metalworking applications. Installation and use are suited to machinists, toolroom technicians, and maintenance professionals.
This reamer is applied in precision hole finishing where tight diameter tolerances are required at very small bore sizes. The No. 58 wire gauge size places it in the 0 to 0.0499 inch decimal inch range, making it appropriate for instrument components, small fastener clearance holes, and fine mechanical assemblies. The right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional spindle rotation. It is used in drill presses, CNC machining centers, and manual milling machines with appropriate speed and feed settings for the workpiece material.
Designed as a standard chucking reamer for use in any drill press, lathe, CNC machining center, or milling machine capable of accepting a straight-cylindrical shank tool in the applicable diameter range.
Chucking reamers should be installed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before loading or removing the reamer from the chuck or collet. Ensure the shank is fully seated and the chuck is tightened to the machine manufacturer's specification before running. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to maximize tool life and maintain dimensional accuracy.
