The HERTEL 72308422 is a wire-size chucking reamer designed to finish-ream drilled holes to a precise diameter of 0.0935 inches (wire size 42). Manufactured from cobalt steel, this reamer offers increased heat and wear resistance compared to standard high-speed steel tooling, making it well-suited for harder workpiece materials and production environments where tool life is a priority. The straight flute geometry produces a clean, accurate bore finish. With a 3.0-inch overall length and a 0.75-inch flute length, this reamer is sized for small-diameter finishing work in metalworking and machining applications. It ships bright and uncoated, ready to use out of the box.
This chucking reamer is intended for use in drill presses, lathes, and CNC machining centers where a straight-cylindrical shank is accepted by a collet, chuck, or reamer holder. The right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional machining setups. Wire-size reamers in this range are commonly used in instrument manufacturing, aerospace component work, precision mechanical assemblies, and any application requiring a finished hole at the 0.0935-inch nominal diameter. The straight flute design is appropriate for through-holes and blind holes where chip evacuation is not a limiting concern.
Designed as a standard chucking reamer for use in any machine tool accepting a straight-cylindrical shank in the applicable diameter range, including drill presses, lathes, and machining centers equipped with collet chucks or reamer holders.
Chucking reamers are installed and removed by a qualified machinist with the machine fully powered down and the spindle at a complete stop. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in a collet or chuck to minimize runout before use. Reamers should not be used to remove excessive stock — drilling to within a few thousandths of final size before reaming is standard practice. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and maintain hole quality.
