The HERTEL 72308273 is a wire-gauge chucking reamer designed for precision hole finishing in metal components. Built from cobalt steel, this reamer handles tough materials and elevated cutting temperatures that would degrade standard high-speed steel tooling. It carries a wire size designation of 27, corresponding to a decimal diameter of 0.1440 inches. The bright, uncoated finish allows the operator to visually inspect cutting edges for wear. With a 4-inch overall length and a 1-inch straight flute section, this tool is suited for through-hole and short blind-hole reaming operations in production and maintenance environments. A licensed machinist or toolroom technician installs and operates this reamer in a drill press, milling machine, or CNC machining center.
This chucking reamer is used in applications requiring accurate, close-tolerance bore finishing at wire-gauge diameters in the 0.1000 to 0.1499 inch range. Typical applications include reaming drilled holes in ferrous and non-ferrous metals, tool and die work, fixture fabrication, and component repair. The right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional machine spindle rotation. The straight-cylindrical shank seats directly in a drill chuck, collet, or floating reamer holder without requiring a taper adapter.
Designed as an OEM-style chucking reamer for use in drill presses, milling machines, and CNC machining centers equipped with a standard drill chuck or collet capable of holding a straight-cylindrical shank at the 0.1440 inch diameter range.
Chucking reamers are installed and operated by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before mounting or removing the tool from the chuck or collet. Secure the shank fully within the chuck jaws or collet bore to prevent runout, which will degrade hole quality and accelerate tool wear. Apply cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material to extend tool life and achieve the target surface finish.
