The HERTEL 72308232 is a wire-gauge chucking reamer designed to finish-size drilled holes to a precise 0.1540-inch diameter. Built from cobalt steel with a bright, uncoated finish, it delivers the hardness and heat resistance needed for reaming tough ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The straight-flute geometry provides clean, consistent cutting action in right-hand rotation. At 4 inches overall length with a 1-inch flute length, the tool fits standard drill chucks and collet holders used in manual lathes, drill presses, and machining centers. Machinists and toolroom technicians use this reamer to hold tight bore tolerances where a drill alone cannot achieve the required finish and accuracy.
This reamer is suited for production and toolroom applications requiring wire-size hole finishing in the 0.1500 to 0.1999-inch decimal inch range. The straight-cylindrical shank provides a secure grip in standard drill chucks and collet-style toolholders. It is appropriate for use in ferrous metals, aluminum, brass, and similar materials where a cobalt steel cutting tool meets hardness requirements. The compact flute length makes it well matched to thin-section workpieces and shallow through-holes where a longer flute would be unnecessary.
Designed as a standard wire-gauge chucking reamer for use in drill presses, manual lathes, turret lathes, and CNC machining centers equipped with drill chucks or straight-shank collet holders sized for the 0.1540-inch shank diameter range.
Chucking reamers are installed by a machinist or toolroom technician — ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in a drill chuck or collet holder to prevent slippage under cutting load. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and achieve the best bore finish. Do not use a reamer to remove excessive stock — pre-drill to within 0.005 to 0.015 inches of final size per standard reaming practice before using this tool.
