The HERTEL 72308091 is a wire-size chucking reamer designed to finish-ream holes to a precise diameter of 0.1960 inches, corresponding to wire gauge size 9. Built from cobalt steel, it handles harder workpiece materials and elevated cutting temperatures better than standard high-speed steel tooling. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard drill press, lathe, or CNC collet chucks. At 5 inches overall length with a 1.25-inch straight flute, this reamer is suited for through-holes and blind holes in light to medium stock. The bright, uncoated finish allows for easy wear inspection during service. Right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional machine setups.
This chucking reamer is used in machine shop, maintenance, and production environments where hole tolerances require finishing beyond what a drill alone can achieve. Typical applications include metalworking operations on steel, stainless, cast iron, and similar ferrous materials where cobalt steel tooling offers a durability advantage. It is installed by machinists and tool-and-die professionals using drill presses, engine lathes, turret lathes, or CNC machining centers. It is not a hand reamer and is not intended for manual operation without machine support.
Designed as a machine chucking reamer for use in drill presses, engine lathes, turret lathes, and CNC machining centers equipped with collet or drill chucks accepting a straight-cylindrical shank in the 0.1500 to 0.1999 inch diameter range.
This reamer is installed by a machinist and requires a machine tool for proper use — do not use as a hand reamer. Power down and lock out the machine before mounting or removing the tool from the chuck or collet. Ensure the shank is fully seated and the collet or chuck is tightened to the machine manufacturer's specification before beginning the cut. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and achieve target surface finish.
