The HERTEL 72300403 is a chucking reamer designed for precision hole finishing in metal fabrication and machining applications. Built from cobalt steel with a bright, uncoated finish, it delivers reliable performance in tough materials where high-speed steel may fall short. The reamer measures 0.625 inches in diameter with a 9 inch overall length and a 2.25 inch straight flute length. Eight right-hand flutes provide smooth cutting action and consistent bore geometry. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard drill chucks and collet holders. This tool is handled by machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians performing precision reaming operations on the shop floor or in the field.
This chucking reamer is suited for finishing drilled holes to tight tolerances in steel, cast iron, aluminum, and similar materials. The cobalt steel construction makes it a practical choice for harder alloys and interrupted cuts where thermal resistance matters. At 0.625 inches diameter, it falls within the common mid-range reamer category used across general machining, production runs, and repair work. The straight flute geometry works well in through-holes and shorter blind holes where chip clearance is manageable.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use chucking reamer for standard drill press, lathe, or CNC applications requiring a 5/8 inch finishing reamer with a straight-cylindrical shank.
Installation is performed by machinists or toolroom technicians. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in a drill chuck or collet before use and verify runout with a dial indicator when tolerance is critical. Always apply an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve surface finish. Do not exceed the recommended feed rate for the material being reamed, as forcing the tool can cause chatter, bell-mouthing, or premature wear.
