The HERTEL 72300361 is a straight-flute chucking reamer designed to finish-ream holes to a precise 9/16 inch (0.5625 inch) diameter. Built from cobalt steel with a bright, uncoated finish, it delivers the hardness and heat resistance needed for production reaming in tougher materials. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in a drill chuck or collet chuck on a lathe, drill press, or milling machine. With an overall length of 8 inches and a 2 inch flute length, it suits a range of fixture depths and machine setups. Right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional spindle rotation. This tool is used by machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance technicians requiring tight-tolerance hole finishing.
The 72300361 is suited for finish reaming applications in metalworking environments where hole diameter tolerance and surface finish are critical. It performs in job shops, production floors, and maintenance machining operations. Typical materials include mild steel, alloy steel, cast iron, and similar ferrous workpieces where cobalt steel construction provides an advantage over standard HSS tooling. The straight flute geometry makes it well-suited for reaming through-holes in materials that do not require a spiral chip evacuation path.
Designed as an OEM-style chucking reamer for use in drill presses, lathes, and milling machines equipped with a drill chuck or straight-bore collet chuck accepting a straight-cylindrical shank in the 9/16 inch diameter class.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with reaming operations and machine tool safety. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank fully in a properly sized chuck before starting the spindle, and verify chuck tightness to prevent slippage under cutting load. Always apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve hole finish. De-energize and lock out the machine before removing or installing any tooling.
