The HERTEL 72300130 is a straight-flute chucking reamer designed to finish-size drilled holes to precise tolerances in metalworking and machining applications. Built from cobalt steel with a bright, uncoated finish, it holds up well against heat and wear when reaming ferrous and harder alloy materials. The reamer measures 0.2031 inches (13/64 inch) in diameter with a 5-inch overall length and a 1-1/4-inch flute length. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard drill chucks or collet holders for rigid, repeatable setups. Right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional lathe, drill press, and machining center use.
This chucking reamer is suited for production and job-shop environments where hole finish and dimensional accuracy are required after drilling. It is used on manual lathes, CNC turning centers, drill presses, and milling machines. Typical applications include through-hole and blind-hole finishing in steel, cast iron, and similar materials where a tight fit or bearing-seat tolerance is specified. The cobalt steel construction makes it a practical choice when reaming work-hardening or higher-strength alloys that would wear out high-speed steel tooling prematurely.
Designed as a standard chucking reamer for use in drill chucks, collet holders, and floating reamer holders on lathes, drill presses, and machining centers that accept a straight-cylindrical shank tooling.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with reaming operations and machine tool safety. Ensure the machine is fully powered down and the spindle is at rest before mounting or removing the reamer from the chuck or collet. The reamer should be run at a lower RPM and higher feed rate than the preceding drill operation to achieve proper finish and tool life. Do not use the reamer to remove excessive stock — pre-drill to the appropriate undersized diameter before reaming to final dimension.
