The HERTEL 72294606 is a No. 60 wire-gauge chucking reamer designed for precision hole finishing in light machining and toolroom applications. Made from high-speed steel (HSS) with four right-hand spiral flutes, it delivers a clean, accurate bore at 0.0400 inches (decimal equivalent of a No. 60 wire gauge). The overall length is 1-5/8 inches with a 1/2-inch flute length. The straight-cylindrical shank is compatible with standard drill chucks and collet holders. Machinists and tool-and-die technicians use this reamer to bring drilled holes to final size with controlled surface finish and dimensional accuracy.
This reamer is suited for small-hole reaming operations in ferrous and non-ferrous metals, plastics, and similar materials on drill presses, lathes, and CNC machining centers. Its compact flute length makes it practical for shallow-hole applications where a full-length reamer would be impractical. The right-hand spiral flute geometry helps pull chips forward and reduces chatter in typical production and maintenance environments.
Designed as a standard straight-shank chucking reamer for use in any machine tool spindle or chuck accepting a straight-cylindrical shank at this diameter range.
Chucking reamers should be installed by a qualified machinist. Always power down and lock out the machine before changing tooling. Use proper cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve surface finish. Do not use a reamer to remove excessive stock — pre-drill the hole to within recommended reaming allowance before use.
