The HERTEL 72294218 is a 6-flute high-speed steel (HSS) chucking reamer designed for precision hole finishing in metal and other machinable materials. It cuts to a diameter of 0.1590 inches, corresponding to wire gauge size 21, and features a right-hand spiral flute geometry that promotes smooth cutting action and efficient chip evacuation. With an overall length of 3.25 inches and a flute length of 1.125 inches, this reamer is sized for close-tolerance work in general machining, toolroom, and production environments. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals use chucking reamers like this one to bring pre-drilled or bored holes to a precise final diameter and surface finish.
This reamer is suited for use in vertical mills, drill presses, lathes, and CNC machining centers where a straight-cylindrical shank can be gripped in a drill chuck or collet. The right-hand spiral flute direction makes it appropriate for standard right-hand rotation setups. At 0.1590 inches, it falls within the 0.1500 to 0.1999 inch decimal range, making it a common selection for dowel pin clearance holes, precision bearing bores, and fixture work where diameter tolerance is critical. It is not configured as a dowel pin reamer or an over/under size reamer.
Designed as an OEM-style chucking reamer for use in machine tool setups accepting a straight-cylindrical shank; compatible with any drill chuck, ER collet, or equivalent toolholder sized for the shank diameter of this reamer.
Chucking reamers are installed and removed by qualified machinists following standard machine tool lockout procedures — power down and de-energize the spindle before changing tooling. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet to the recommended grip depth to prevent tool runout. Always ream after a pilot drill or boring operation, leaving minimal stock for the reamer to remove, and use an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and maintain hole quality.
