The HERTEL 72294168 is a high-speed steel (HSS) chucking reamer designed to bring drilled or bored holes to precise final diameter. Built to wire gauge size 16, this reamer produces a finished bore of 0.1770 inches with a bright, uncoated finish suited for general-purpose ferrous and non-ferrous material applications. The 6-flute, right-hand spiral configuration provides smooth cutting action and good chip evacuation during through-hole and blind-hole finishing. With an overall length of 3-3/8 inches and a 1-1/8-inch flute length, the tool fits standard chucking setups on drill presses, lathes, and CNC machining centers. Machinists, toolroom technicians, and precision fabricators use this reamer for close-tolerance finishing work where drill-only sizing is insufficient.
This chucking reamer is appropriate for production and toolroom environments requiring wire-gauge-size bores in the 0.1500 to 0.1999 inch diameter range. The straight-cylindrical shank allows direct mounting in drill chucks, collet holders, or floating reamer holders. It is suited to light finishing passes in mild steel, aluminum, brass, and similar machinable materials. The bright, uncoated HSS construction makes it a practical general-purpose option where specialized coatings are not required and resharpening in-shop is an acceptable maintenance path.
Designed as an OEM-style chucking reamer for use in standard drill chuck, collet, or floating holder setups requiring wire gauge size 16 diameter finishing in the 0.1500 to 0.1999 inch decimal inch range.
Installation is performed by machinists or toolroom technicians. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in a drill chuck or collet holder before operation and verify runout is within acceptable tolerance for the bore finish required. Always ensure the workpiece is clamped or fixtured before engaging the reamer, and use an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve surface finish. Never use a chucking reamer as a primary hole-generating tool; always pre-drill or bore to within a few thousandths of final size before reaming.
