The HERTEL 72294101 is a high-speed steel (HSS) chucking reamer designed to finish-ream drilled holes to precise tolerances. It carries a wire gauge size of 10, corresponding to a decimal diameter of 0.1935 inches, placing it in the 0.1500 to 0.1999 inch diameter range. With an overall length of 3-5/8 inches and a flute length of 1-1/4 inches, this reamer is suited for tight-tolerance hole finishing in metalworking operations. The straight-cylindrical shank mounts directly into standard chucks or collets on mills, drill presses, and CNC machining centers. Six spiral, right-hand flutes promote smooth chip evacuation and produce a consistent, smooth bore finish. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary installers.
This chucking reamer is used in precision machining environments where a drilled hole requires final sizing to close dimensional tolerances. It is well-suited for production and job-shop applications involving steel, aluminum, brass, and similar machinable materials. The wire size 10 designation makes it a practical choice wherever a 0.1935-inch finished hole diameter is required, such as for dowel pin fits, bearing bores, and close-tolerance fastener clearance holes. The compact flute length keeps the tool rigid in shallow-hole applications.
Designed as an OEM-style chucking reamer for use in any machine tool spindle accepting a straight-cylindrical shank of the corresponding diameter, including drill presses, knee mills, and CNC machining centers.
Chucking reamers are installed by qualified machinists following standard toolroom practices. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before mounting or removing the tool from the chuck or collet. Use cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material to extend tool life and achieve the specified surface finish. Remove only the minimum stock required for reaming — typically 0.003 to 0.005 inches on the diameter — based on the pre-drilled hole size; do not use this tool to open undersized holes beyond its design stock-removal range.
