The HERTEL 72291321 is a straight-flute chucking reamer designed to finish-ream drilled holes to a precise 0.5000 inch diameter. Machined from high-speed steel (HSS), it delivers consistent dimensional accuracy and surface finish in production and job-shop environments. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard drill chucks or collet holders, and the 6-flute geometry distributes cutting load evenly for smooth, chatter-free operation. With a 2 inch flute length and 6 inch overall length, the tool reaches blind and through holes in a wide range of workpiece configurations. This reamer is suited to machinists and tool-and-die tradespeople working on lathes, drill presses, and machining centers.
The 72291321 is intended for finish-reaming operations where hole tolerance and surface quality are critical. It is appropriate for use in ferrous and non-ferrous metals under appropriate cutting speeds and lubrication. The straight right-hand spiral direction makes it compatible with conventional right-hand spindle rotation on standard machine tools. Typical applications include sizing bearing seats, bushing bores, and dowel-pin holes in precision fixtures and assemblies where tight positional and diameter tolerances are required.
Designed as a general-purpose chucking reamer for use in any machine tool accepting a straight-cylindrical shank, including drill presses, lathes, and vertical machining centers equipped with appropriate chuck or collet toolholding.
Installation and operation should be performed by a qualified machinist following standard machine-shop practices. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before mounting or removing the reamer from the toolholder. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve surface finish. Always pre-drill or rough-ream the hole to within recommended stock-allowance before finish-reaming; do not use a chucking reamer as a primary hole-generating tool.
