The HERTEL 72290315 is a wire-gauge chucking reamer designed to finish-ream drilled holes to a precise 0.1200 inch diameter, corresponding to wire size 31. Manufactured from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, this four-flute tool delivers accurate sizing in light-to-medium finishing operations. The straight-cylindrical shank seats directly in a drill chuck or collet holder, and the straight flute geometry suits through-hole reaming in a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. At 2.75 inches overall length with a 0.875 inch flute length, this reamer is suited for short, precise bores in production or toolroom environments. Machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians are the primary users.
This reamer is intended for use in machine tool applications where hole tolerance and surface finish are critical. It performs best when mounted in a rigid spindle on a drill press, mill, or lathe tailstock. Typical applications include finish-reaming pilot holes, dowel pin holes, and close-tolerance bores in jigs, fixtures, and machine components. The small diameter and compact flute length make it well suited for precision work in tight geometries. Right-hand cutting direction is standard and compatible with conventional spindle rotation.
Designed as a standard chucking reamer for use in drill presses, milling machines, lathes, and CNC machining centers equipped with a drill chuck or collet capable of gripping a straight-cylindrical shank at this diameter range.
This tool is installed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before mounting or removing the reamer. Seat the straight-cylindrical shank fully in the chuck or collet and verify runout before cutting. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve bore finish; avoid running the reamer dry in steel.
