The HERTEL 72039704 is a chucking reamer designed to finish-ream drilled or bored holes to a precise 0.9700-inch diameter. Manufactured from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, this tool delivers accurate sizing in ferrous and non-ferrous materials across a wide range of machining applications. The straight-cylindrical shank mounts directly in drill chucks or collet holders on lathes, drill presses, and machining centers. With 8 straight flutes and right-hand cutting action, it produces smooth, consistent bore surfaces. Overall length is 10 inches, with a 2-5/8 inch flute length. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals rely on this style of reamer for production and maintenance work where hole tolerance and surface finish are critical.
This chucking reamer is suited for machine-tool applications requiring close-tolerance hole finishing in the 0.7000 to 0.9999 inch diameter range. Typical use cases include through-holes and blind bores in machine components, fixtures, and assemblies where a drilled hole requires final sizing to achieve a press, locational, or running fit. The straight-flute geometry handles both through and short blind-hole work and is well matched to materials where a helical flute is not required. It is sold individually and ships as a single unit.
Designed as a standard chucking reamer for use in lathes, drill presses, milling machines, and machining centers equipped with a drill chuck or collet capable of accepting a straight-cylindrical shank in the corresponding diameter.
A licensed machinist or toolroom technician should install and operate this reamer. Ensure the machine spindle and workpiece are secured before engaging the reamer, and use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve surface finish. Feed rate and spindle speed should be set conservatively for reaming — generally lower RPM and steady feed compared to drilling. Inspect the shank and flutes for damage before each use; a chipped or worn reamer will not hold dimensional tolerance.
