The HERTEL 72034861 is a straight-flute chucking reamer designed for precision hole finishing in metalworking applications. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, this reamer delivers consistent bore sizing in drill press, lathe, and CNC mill operations. It carries a 0.4860-inch cutting diameter, an 8-inch overall length, and a 2-inch flute length, making it well suited for moderate-depth reaming passes where tight dimensional tolerances are required. The straight-cylindrical shank seats directly into standard drill chucks or collet holders without additional adapters. Weighing 0.19 pounds, it is a lightweight but rigid tool for production and maintenance shops alike.
This chucking reamer is intended for machine-tool use in job shops, tool rooms, and maintenance environments where finished-hole accuracy is critical. It is appropriate for reaming pre-drilled holes in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The right-hand cutting direction suits conventional spindle rotation on drill presses, lathes, and machining centers. The 6-flute geometry provides smooth cutting action and improved surface finish compared to fewer-flute designs, and it is sized within the 0.4000 to 0.4999 inch diameter range for standard inch-series hole applications.
Designed as an OEM-style machine reamer for use in drill presses, engine lathes, and CNC machining centers equipped with drill chucks or straight-bore collet holders accepting a straight-cylindrical shank in the 0.4860-inch diameter class.
Machine reamers should be installed and operated by qualified machinists or tool-and-die technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before securing the reamer in the chuck or collet. Always use an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and protect surface finish. Do not use a chucking reamer to remove excessive stock — pre-drill or bore holes to within 0.005 to 0.015 inches of finished size before reaming.
