The HERTEL 72028301 is a straight-flute chucking reamer designed for precision hole finishing in metal machining applications. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, this reamer delivers accurate final hole sizing where tight tolerances are required. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard drill chucks or collet holders. At 0.2830 inches in diameter with a 6-inch overall length and a 1-1/2-inch flute length, it covers typical through-hole and shallow blind-hole reaming tasks encountered in production and maintenance machining. Right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional machine spindle operation. Six flutes provide a smooth surface finish and consistent chip evacuation during the cut.
This chucking reamer is suited for use in drill presses, milling machines, CNC machining centers, and manual lathes where a reamed hole finish is required after drilling. It is appropriate for general-purpose metalworking in both job-shop and production environments. Typical applications include bearing seat finishing, dowel pin holes, and any close-tolerance bore where a drilled hole alone does not meet specification. The 0.2830-inch nominal diameter falls within the 0.2500 to 0.2999-inch decimal inch range, making it a standard selection for finish reaming operations in that size class.
Designed as an OEM-style chucking reamer compatible with standard drill chucks and collet systems that accept a straight-cylindrical shank in the corresponding diameter range.
Installation and operation of chucking reamers should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with machine tool setup and cutting tool safety. Power down and de-energize the machine spindle before mounting or removing the tool from the chuck or collet. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and achieve the target surface finish. Do not use a reamer to remove excessive stock; pre-drill the hole to within the recommended allowance before reaming to final size.
